I'd like you to meet Yukiko, a polar bear cub (his name means snow child). I was inspired for this new design by a book about two hand reared polar bears who were rejected by their mother in San Diego Zoo (Klondike and Snow). I used many of the photographs of the cubs as my starting point for the design, I wanted to capture their chubby cubbiness. Yukiko is crafted in hand dyed alpaca, so his coat is not a stark white but a lovely soft "dirty" white. He has deluxe English glass eyes with leather upper eyelids which give him a whimsical demeanour. Yukiko is six way jointed with a double neck joint and armatured limbs for posing, and he has glass pellets in his belly to give him a realistic weight. His face is extensively scissor and needle sculpted to create his friendly smile, enhanced by a glossy hand sculpted leather nose. Yukiko's foot pads are appliqued and sculpted ultra suede.This bear measures 12" (30cm) from head to toe, 9" (23cm) seated and 10" (25.5cm) nose to tail on all fours. This is Bronson, my latest bear, he's made from a lovely piece of brown alpaca that I have had in my stash for a number of years, just waiting for the right bear. His fur is a soft and dense mix of browns with a few blonde guard hairs, a truly one of a kind bear as this fur is no longer available. Bronson is extensively needle and scissor sculpted to create his sweet little bear cub's face, he has deluxe English glass eyes in beautiful hazel with leather upper eye lids and embroidered perle cotton eye whites for that appealing puppy dog look. Bronson has six joints, including a double neck joint for poseability, all his limbs are wire armatured for some extra, gentle posing fun. I had alot of fun creating Bronson's sculpted leather paws. I used a lovely piece of mottled leather for the applique which I then sculpted to make his cute toes and footpads. I have added the teeniest hint of claws, embroidering them in with ivory perle thread. Bronson's nose is sculpted from leather and then painted with gloss varnish to give it a healthy shine. He stands at 12" (30cm) tall and 7" (18cm) at the shoulder when on all fours, and he has glass pellets in his belly to give the cub a realistic weight. Bronson is available now for $550.00 Au + post.
